Boy, 12 by Cooper Ovalle, India

In this part of the house,
The light is half,
Darkness cuts the room into two.
Photographs are your memories --
Tangible and unfailing.

The mirrors excite you
For you do not know
What they will show –
A young man perhaps
With hair like brushed eyelashes.
Crayons in hands,
Learning to color the leaves
Before spelling out names.
