Living in Denial by Sweta Srivastava Vikram, USA

Living in Denial

Her braids, train tracks of desire,
write a story headed towards
a destination—an emotional station

where each strand weaves a distance,
pushing her into a hole of loneliness
infested with ants of agony mourning

the noose that leads them to the dark side
of faith where John Malkovich stifles
her unborn with a mute rubber band,

but not a syllable passes between her lips
that look like bruised marks left by cigarette
spikes—the kind growing out of angry

but resilient trees in winters. That’s how
she chooses to live her life—without
any odor of truth passing over her.
